FORD CITY — The Armstrong County Master Gardener Program will conduct a composting workshop from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Crooked Creek Environmental Learning Center, 142 Kerr Road. Participants will receive a coupon for a compost bin.

MARS — Opus I Music Society will celebrate American Music Month with a program dedicated to the Parade of American Music of the National Federation of Music Clubs. The program is titled "Broadway" and will feature selections from contemporary and traditional musicals.The program will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the music room of the Mars Alliance Church, 997 Route 228. OAKLAND TWP— The Oakland Township PTOwill hold a family reading night and book fair with celebrity readers at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Oakland Township Elementary School.Celebrity readers will include major league pitcher Matt Clement, the Pirate Parrot and Cora, the children's librarian at Butler Public Library.The event will include activities and a book swap. Families may take their gently read books to swap.

VALENCIA — Volunteers are being sought to volunteer for the Presents for Patients headquarters, 76 Camp Road. Presents for Patients is a holiday program that matches St. Barnabas long-term care residents with community members who deliver a gift.Volunteer services include wrapping gifts, answering phones and matching patients with community members.To volunteer, call 724-443-0011.
