Alice E. Lewis

Lewis

Alice E. Lewis, 86, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Dec. 28, 2022, at Sacred Heart Senior Living in Northampton, Pa.

She was born a farmer’s daughter on Oct. 1, 1936, on a farm in Harmony, and was the daughter of the late William Walter Eiler and Mildred Frances (Scott) Eiler. In her youth, the family moved into town, Zelienople.

In her younger years, Alice was a member of the 4-H Club. She played in the high school band and enjoyed ice skating in the winter along the Connoquenessing Creek.

She graduated from Zelienople High School and worked at both Isaly’s and Mellon Bank. She then went on to work in the cafeteria for the Seneca Valley School District after beginning a family. Because she worked all the morning and afternoon student study halls, she was fondly known as the “Donut Lady” to some students. She eventually ended her career as manager of the Senior High School cafeteria.

Alice was never one to just sit around. She held all the various offices of the Freeway Lanes Women’s Bowling League, was active in her church (English Lutheran and Shepherd of the Sea) and volunteered at the Zelienople Community Park. After retiring and moving to the Myrtle Beach area with her husband, she went back to work, working part time for Dunkin’ Donuts in Murrells Inlet. She loved chatting with all of her regulars and occasionally seeing someone she knew from her hometown. She held the position of president of the entertainment committee for Oceanside Village, was a district representative, and she received a Volunteer of the Year Award from the village where she and her husband of 63 years lived since 1996. She enjoyed talking daily with many friends she had in the village. She was also a member of the Red Hat Club.

Alice enjoyed sitting on the beach with family, bowling and playing dominoes with friends. Above all, Alice loved her family with her whole heart. She will be deeply missed, but remembered for her vibrant personality and infectious smile.

Left to cherish Alice’s memory are her three sons, William Lewis and his wife, Eileen, of Northampton, Pa., Scott Lewis and his longtime companion, Karen Kaufman, of Zelienople, and Dale Lewis and his wife, Dawn, of Plum; three grandchildren, Mackenzie, Conner and Alayna Lewis; her honorary grandsons, Bryan King and his wife, Brianna, and Stephen King and his wife, Heather; her honorary great-granddaughter, Lizzy King; her brother and sisters-in-laws, Charlie Lewis and wife, Donna, and Joanne Smith, all of Zelienople; several nieces, nephews and cousins spread throughout the country; and a large, loving extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.

LEWIS — A celebration of life for Alice E. Lewis, who died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, will be held at a later date.

Contributions may be made in her memory to a Shriners Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
