Pirates sign southpaw reliever
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates signed left-handed relief pitcher Jarlin Garcia to a one-year contract Wednesday.
Garcia, 29, has recorded the fifth-lowest earned run average (2.84) since the beginning of the 2020 season for all qualified left-handed relievers in MLB. He was with the San Francisco Giants during those three seasons, going 9-8 with two saves, 138 strikeouts and limiting hitters to a .215 batting average.
He was 1-4 with a save and a 3.74 ERA last season.
Right-handed pitcher Bryse Wilson has been designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Garcia.
