SUMMIT TWP — The township supervisors will hold a public conditional use hearing Wednesday for a potential natural gas compressor station off Herman Road.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the township building, 502 Bonniebrook Road.

Mountain Gathering LLC, a subsidiary of XTO Energy, is seeking a conditional use permit to potentially construct the station on nearly 143 acres zoned for residential use. The land is about one mile from the Butler city line.

Even if the supervisors approve the use, there is still a chance the station will not be built.

Amy Dobkin, an XTO spokesman, said the company is just studying the area as a potential location.

“This site requires further analyses and study to determine its viability for our project,” Dobkin said.

She said the company is seeking the OK early so it would be easier to begin development if it selects the site.

Because the project is still in the study phase, Dobkin said there are no final plans for the station and there is no timeline for construction or development.

She said the station would look like ones XTO has built in Jefferson and Forward townships, with a green building to house the compressors along with related tanks and piping in a fenced area.

Although zoned residential, Dobkin said the property historically has been used for industrial purposes and is adjacent to an auto salvage yard.

Roxann Stickney, township secretary, said XTO officials will give a presentation and the public will be allowed to offer comments or ask questions. She said that the township supervisors may or may not vote on the conditional use at the hearing.
