Virginia VanDyke

Virginia I. Hill VanDyke, 93, of Freeport passed away at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Natrona Heights.

Virginia was born in South Buffalo Township, on Nov. 12, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Florence M. (Srader) and Blair S. VanDyke.

She was the widow of her first husband, Raymond L. Hill, who passed away in 1973, and her second husband, Glenn E. VanDyke, who passed in 1997.

She was a lifetime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeport. She worked as a private duty nurse and was an LPN at the Concordia Lutheran Home in Cabot for 25 years.

Virginia was a member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed being involved in church activities. She loved to crochet, sew, cook and bake. She enjoyed reading and making Christmas crafts for her family and friends. She also enjoyed her time and friends at Fair Winds Manor.

Virginia is survived by her three children, Sidney R. (Kathleen) Hill of South Buffalo Township, Annette J. Pirrone of New Kensington and Sally I. Smith of South Buffalo Township; and her three stepchildren, Edwin (Toot) VanDyke of South Buffalo Township, Evelyn Stokes of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kathleen (David) Ehrman of Brackenridge. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Deborah Thieising, Kimberly (Dave) Chapman, Gregory Hill, Nancy Keener, Ted (LuAnn) Keener, John Keener, Allen (Janice) Keener, Tim (Michelle) Keener, Brigitte (John) Kowalski, Jennifer (Thomas) Johnson and Christopher (Carole) Smith; 19 great-grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-stepgrandchildren. Virginia also was eagerly anticipating the birth of her first great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her son, Paul E. Hill in 2002; two brothers, Robert and William VanDyke; sister, Dorothy Ruppersberger; sister-in-law, Jean VanDyke; two sons-in-law, Sam Pirrone and James Smith; stepson-in-law, Lloyd Stokes; granddaughter-in-law, Joyce Keener; great-grandson, Aaron Keener; niece, Denise Thimons; and great niece, Jackie Beale Blondeaux.

VANDYKE — Family and friends of Virginia I. Hill VanDyke, who passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.Funeral services will be in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. James Higgins officiating.
