Shirley A. Lucas

Shirley A. Lucas, 77, of Kittanning Street, Chicora, Chicora Commons, passed away in the company of her family at 11:19 p.m. Wednesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

Shirley was born on Aug. 17, 1937, in the village of North Oakland. She was the daughter of the late J. Clyde and Gertrude Marie Solida Benson.

She was of the Roman Catholic faith.

Shirley enjoyed playing UNO with her great-nieces and nephews, playing scratch-off lottery tickets, crocheting and bingo at The Commons.

She retired in 1999 from the custodial staff at Karns City High School following 26 years of service.

Shirley was married to Paul Lucas, who preceded her in death in 1976.

She is survived by her sister, Alberta M. Dunn of Chicora; her two brothers, Leo J. Benson and his wife, Maxine, of Butler and Donald R. Benson and his wife, Yvonne, of Petrolia; her three nieces and her nephew, Jody Crescenzi, Jeffrey Benson, Stacey Campbell and her husband, Tim, and Kelly Dunn; her two great-nieces and two great-nephews, Courtney, Steven, Kyle and Kelsey; her two stepchildren, Pauline Greenawalt and her husband, Dick, of East Brady and Paul Lucas and his wife, Paula, of Bradys Bend; her three special friends, Mary Crawford, Kelly Hartle and Darla Ferraro; as well as a number of cousins.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Paul Dunn.

Lucas— In accordance with Shirley's wishes, visitation and a blessing service for Shirley A. Lucas, who passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015, will be private, officiated by the Rev. Rick Thompson, pastor of the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church.
