Judith Ann Ellis

Ellis

Judith “Judy” Ann Ellis (Huminski) of Grand Rapids, Mich., joined her husband, John D., and son, Michael John, in Heaven on Dec. 18, 2022.

She was born Aug. 4, 1942.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Liz VanDiepenbos (Mike); her daughter-in-law, Dawn Ellis; her grandchildren, Eric (Sandhya), Sarah, Megan and Amy; her sister, Patty Miller (Chip); and her sister-in-law, Linda DeCorte (Joe).

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, earlier this year; her son, Mike; her parents, Dr. Thaddeus and Mary Ellen Huminski; as well as her brother, Mike Huminski and his wife, Mimi.

Judy was born in Grosse Pointe, Mich., and graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart. She attended Loretto Heights College (now Regis University) in Colorado, where she met John, and graduated with a liberal arts degree in English literature.

After graduation, she was a fourth grade teacher in Fort Wayne, Ind., and later became a stay-at-home mom.

Judy loved to work, was an avid reader, and had an endless curiosity for medicine. When the family moved to Pittsburgh, she became a medical assistant for Dobler and Potter physicians, and then as an accounting assistant at Pittsburgh Pacific Processing Company.

Judy and John moved to Titusville, and she became the head librarian at the Sarah Stewart Bovard Memorial Library in Tionesta. After their second grandchild was born, Judy and John moved to Zeeland, Mich., to be closer to their growing family. Judy served as the medical librarian at Zeeland Community Hospital (Spectrum) and volunteered there before retiring in 2016.

John and Judy resided in Fort Myers, Fla., for a short time before returning to Michigan in 2020. Judy spent her final years at the Brook of Cedar Springs, where she passed peacefully after a brief illness.
