BUTLER TWP — The Hiring Our Heroes veterans employment event will take place at VA Butler Healthcare, 325 New Castle Road, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday.

This is a fair for veterans and other military job seekers that focuses on resume writing, tips for successfully navigating hiring fairs, military skill transition and interviewing.

There also will be an employment workshop at 8:30 a.m.

Job seekers can register for free at HiringOurHeroes.org to guarantee admission.

Walk-ins are welcome, but space is not guaranteed.

Butler County government has updated its website.Chief county clerk Amy Wilson said the revamped website at co.butler.pa.us would help visitors find information.“It needed a redesign and updating to be more user-friendly,” Wilson said.She said the new design is better organized than the old one, which was used since 2003.A new feature on the site is a “How Do I?” box on the upper right corner of the home page.A drop down menu provides links to such information as how to obtain, gun permits, marriage licenses and pay taxes.The county paid Blue Archer of Pittsburgh $19,935 to do the work.

BRADFORD, Pa. — A northwestern Pennsylvania cutlery firm is celebrating its 125th anniversary, along with $10 million in renovations to its plant.W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery was formed by four brothers in 1889 in upstate New York. The company moved to Bradford, Pennsylvania — its current location about 130 miles northeast of Pittsburgh — in 1905.The company is now owned by Zippo Manufacturing, which makes the iconic cigarette lighters best known for their distinctive metal cases.As part of Wednesday's anniversary celebration, Zippo is spending nearly $10 million to renovate the Case Cutlery factory, which was built in 1975

HIGHSPIRE, Pa. — Speed limits on more than 100 miles of two interstates in Pennsylvania will rise to 70 mph for the first time this summer, with similar increases possible next year on other stretches of road around the state, state transportation officials said Wednesday.The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's announcement comes a day after the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission raised the speed limit on a 97-mile stretch of I-76 in central and eastern Pennsylvania from 65 mph to 70 mph.The sections of interstate where speed limits will rise next month include 88 miles on Interstate 80 in northern Pennsylvania's Clearfield and Clinton counties and 21 miles of Interstate 380 in northeastern Pennsylvania's Lackawanna and Monroe counties.The changes are to take effect the week of Aug. 11.

WASHINGTON — The State Department's global database for issuing travel documents has crashed, resulting in major delays for potentially millions of people around the world waiting for U.S. passports and visas.Unspecified glitches in the department's Consular Consolidated Database have resulted in “significant performance issues, including outages” in the processing of applications for passports, visas and reports of Americans born abroad since Saturday, spokeswoman Marie Harf said. She said the problem is worldwide and not specific to any particular country, citizenship document or visa category.
