The sixth annual Walk of Hope will begin at 10 a.m. June 8 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 420 N. Main St.
The drug awareness walk is meant to bring attention and hope to those suffering from an addiction and support those in recovery.
Participants will walk from the church to the county courthouse.
A basket raffle and free T-shirts will be available while supplies last. Donations will be accepted.
The walk is organized by the family support group Hope for Broken Hearts.
The third annual Paws for Health will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at DeWalt Health Centre on Main Street.Donations received at the free dog-centered party will benefit Nittany Greyhounds Dog Rescue.Proceeds collected from slices sold at a pizza “pawty” that will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. will be donated to the greyhound rescue.Other activities will include $5 nail trimming by a professional from a local dog day spa, a blessing of the animals by a priest from St. Paul Catholic Church, and meeting a representative from the greyhound rescue to find out about breeds and possible adoption.Samples from various vendors will be available as well as a kissing booth.All dogs will go home with a doggie bag.
Alameda Waterpark will open at 12:15 p.m. June 1.The water park will then be open for public swimming from 12:15 to 7 p.m. daily through Aug. 25.Passes for all ages and family sizes are available at the park office, which is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.Passes also are available online at https://bcpr.recdesk.com.The waterpark is at 183 Alameda Park Road.
Volunteers are needed for a workday Saturday on the Butler-Freeport Community Trail.Chris Ziegler, trail council president, said volunteers can meet at 9 a.m. at the Sheetz in Jefferson Township off Bonniebrook Road.Volunteers can bring pruners, chainsaws, gloves and safety glasses to help clear brush and trees for the first spring mowing.The 21-mile trail, which has been open since 1989, follows Little Buffalo Creek to Buffalo Creek and on to the Allegheny River at Freeport.
