Gertrude Barnhart
Gertrude E. “Gertie” Barnhart, 95, of Cabot, formerly of Chicora, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Monday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.
She was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Carbon Center, Pa., to the late George B. Filges and Ida (Yost) Filges.
Mrs. Barnhart was a lifelong member of the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the King's Daughters Sunday school class.
She was a 1937 graduate of Butler High School. Mrs. Barnhart worked at the Butler County Court House from 1943 to 1978, including the County Treasurer's Office, the County Controller's Office and retiring from the County Sheriff's Office.
She enjoyed playing cards, entertaining company, cooking and baking. She especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter and great- grandchildren.
Mrs. Barnhart is survived by one son, Keith E. Barnhart and his wife, Shirley Barnhart of Chicora; one granddaughter, Tricia Clark and her husband, Leland, of Butler; two great-grandchildren, Tristan Clark and Dulcinea Clark; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton E. Barnhart, who she married on Feb. 3, 1949, and who passed away on April 2, 1996; and also by one brother, Everett A. Filges.
