Paintings by Huang Xiang will be part of the “A Cosmic Contemporary Collaboration” opening Saturday at the Maridon Museum.
Maridon hosts poetry, paintings, ancient music

The Maridon Museum will have a gala opening for “A Cosmic Contemporary Collaboration” from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Featured will be a performance by poet Huang Xiang, and Mimi Jong will play the erhu, an ancient Chinese instrument.

The exhibit will show paintings by Huang Xiang, as well as transcendent works of art by Randall DiGiuseppe, William Rock and Dennis Keyes.

Light refreshments will be provided. Admission donation is $10, and reservations are required for the reception. Call 724-282-0123.

The Maridon, 322 N. McKean St. opened May 8, 2004, and is billed as the only museum in Western Pennsylvania with a focus on Asian art and culture coupled with Meissen porcelain.

The museum, both the objects and the buildings that house them, were gifts of Mary Hulton Phillips, a life-long resident of Butler.

The Asian art collection includes more than 800 art objects, such as jade and ivory sculptures, tapestries, landscape paintings, scrolls and artifacts.
