Katherine Taggart
Katherine Jane Taggart, 85, of Mercer Township passed away at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Orchard Manor in Grove City.
She was born in Slippery Rock Township on April 11, 1926, to William Francis Thompson and Virgie Louella Michael.
She married Paul William Taggart on Sept. 12, 1947.
She was a 1943 graduate of Slippery Rock High School and a 1945 graduate of the Butler Business College. Until her first child was born, she was a secretary at a law firm in Butler. In addition to being a homemaker, she played a vital role as assistant to her husband for tax collecting for Mercer Township from 1961 to 1997.
She was a member of the Harrisville United Methodist Church and the Grove City Chapter 86 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband, Paul W. Taggart; two daughters, Patricia Kay (Dave) Castor of Harrisville and Dorothy “Dee” Jane (Raymond) Thompson of Slippery Rock; one sister, Margaret G. Fryman of Grove City; five grandchildren, Eric and Kristin Castor, and Sarah, Megan and Ryan Thompson; and one great-granddaughter, Camryn Gercken.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Michael Paul Thompson.
TAGGART — Visitation for Katherine Jane Taggart, who died Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the
Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Harrisville United Methodist Church, 301 S. Main St., Harrisville, with the Rev. Willard Morse, retired pastor of Harrisville United Methodist Church, and the Rev. B.T. Gilligan, pastor of the Harrisville United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church before the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township, Mercer County.Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisville United Methodist Church Boiler Fund or to the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, in care of Robert J. Murdoch Jr., 921 Scrubgrass Road, Mercer, PA 16137.
