Dawna M. “Mitzi” Rice, 91, of Jackson Township, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, while under the care of AHN Wexford Hospital.

Born Aug. 18, 1931, in Zelienople, she was the daughter of the late Hiram Lutz and Mary Shaffer Lutz.

Dawna was a 1951 graduate of Zelienople High School, where she was a majorette. She also belonged to the Harmonette’s and the Zelienople Fire Dept. Majorette’s. Dawna worked for Isley’s Meats for 19 years and also worked as a Bell Telephone Operator. She retired from Chubby Chuck’s in 1993. Dawna was also a lifetime member of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Zelienople. Above all, Dawna cherished the time she spent with her family. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Maureen Michele Neal (Edward) of Evans City, and Linda Diane Graef (Casey) of Zelienople; her grandchildren, Shannon Graef, Jared Neal, Dylan Neal, and Cody Neal; her great-grandchild, Brayden Covelli; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Dawna was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin F. Rice; her brothers, Floyd Smith, Robert Lutz, and Donald Lutz; her sister, Betty Jane Lutz; and her sisters-in-law, Sharon Lutz and Waneda Lutz.

RICE — Friends of Dawna M. “Mitzi” Rice, who died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Dawna will be laid to rest with her husband at Grace Church Cemetery in Harmony.
