Show offers magic, humor
CONNOQUENESSING TWP — Magic will be wandering through the Butler Farm Show grounds Monday through Aug. 12, as Dr. Smart and Friends will be performing all week.
The wandering magic and comedy show will be strolling the grounds and performing at the stage behind the dairy barns at times to be announced.
Dr. Fred Smart has been performing magic since he was a 10-year-old boy living in Marion, Ind.
Since then, he has performed more than 25,000 magic shows in 42 different countries.
Smart blends comedy, magic and family entertainment into his shows, which also feature "Charcoal," the world's only performing live rabbit.
Smart has written and produced several magic shows over the years, including the "Olde Tyme Magical Medicine Show,"a comedy magic show featuring Smart as a snake oil salesman in a pioneer town; "'A' as in Attitude," a school assembly program; and "Shalazam," an illusion show.
He was the resident magician at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville for seven years, and owned the Smart Magic Shop in Nashville for the same length of time.
Smart, who now lives in Ohio, continues to perform about 500 to 600 shows a year.
Smart says he has performed in more magic shows in separate locations than any magician in history.
