ERIE — Grove City High School catcher Jeff Revesz has been named District 10 Baseball Player of the Year.

Joining him on the all-district team were Eagle teammates Jon Anderson at shortstop and outfielder Alex Miklos.

Miklos and Anderson were named Region 7 Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.

ERIE — Grove City High School pitcher Alicia Feather has been named first team Region 5 in softball.Slippery Rock pitcher Stephanie Kotomski, catcher Kalene Ireland and outfielder Melea Mauthe made second team, as did Grove City first baseman Kara Franklin and second baseman Lauren Bovard.<B></B>

TORONTO — Dwane Casey was hired as coach of the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday, nine days after the Dallas assistant helped the Mavericks win an NBA title.He succeeds Jay Triano, a Canadian who became a consultant after the season. Casey joins a team that went 22-60 last season and has the fifth pick in Thursday's NBA draft.Casey was the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves from June 2005 to January 2007, compiling a 43-59 record.He said his top goal is to give the Raptors a “defensive identity.”

NEW YORK — The NHL board of governors unanimously approved the sale of the Atlanta Thrashers on Tuesday, paving the way for the club to move to Winnipeg, Manitoba, for next season.True North Sports and Entertainment bought the team last month and announced it was bringing the Thrashers to Winnipeg, which lost the Jets to Phoenix after the 1995-96 season.
