H. Victor McGarvey
H. Victor McGarvey, 86, of Dogwood Road, Chicora, went to be with the Lord Tuesday morning at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.
Victor was born May 8, 1929, in Chicora. He was the son of Harold Robert and Dorothy Moore McGarvey. Victor was a 1947 graduate of Chicora High School.
He was a longtime active member of St. John's Reformed Church in Chicora and served on the church consistory. Vic enjoyed bird watching, reading, puzzles, walking and his daily visits to the Chicora senior center. He most especially enjoyed his role as grandfather, where he was affectionately known as “Pap.”
He was employed for more than 42 years at Koppers, later INDSPEC Chemical Corp. in Petrolia, and he retired in 1991 as a distillation operator in the production department.
Victor was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl J. Hutchison McGarvey, who he married Feb. 11, 1956, in Butler. Mrs. McGarvey preceded him in death Oct. 27, 2010.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra L. Geibel, and her husband, Dennis, and his son, Bryan V. McGarvey, and his wife, Diane L., all of Chicora.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Kara Wood and her husband, Kyle, of Chicora, Brittni Geibel and her boyfriend, Nathan Troyan, of Evans City, Emileigh Geibel and her fiance, Gregory Pawluk, of Connoquenessing, Lauren Crawford and her husband, Adam, of Butler, Aaron McGarvey and his wife, Amber, of West Sunbury, Ethan McGarvey and his fiancee, Cara Yasika, and Evan McGarvey and his fiancee, Megan Hegedus, all of Chicora; his sister, Annabelle McKinnis of Cabot; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. McGarvey was preceded in death by two sisters, Alene Larkin and Eleanor Smith.

Victor McGarvey, who died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Reformed Church, 334 W. Slippery Rock St., Chicora.A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. John H. Pistorius, church pastor, officiating.
