Television Q&A

QUESTION: Is “Outlander” on Starz over? The story ended as if it could continue at another time.

ANSWER: Starz split the first season of the time-travel romance, based on the first in a series of books by Diana Gabaldon. The season will resume on April 4 with eight more episodes. And Starz has ordered a second season of the series, to be based on Gabaldon’s novel “Dragonfly in Amber.”

By the way, the author’s website, www.dianagabaldon.com, has an enjoyable post by Gabaldon about her novels’ adaptation for the screen.

QUESTION: What happened to the guy that played Jason Quartermaine/Jason Morgan on “General Hospital”? He was on the show for years and next thing he was gone. He was not even mentioned on the show’s 50th anniversary program.

ANSWER: Steve Burton, who played Jason on the daytime soap for the better part of 20 years, left the series in 2012. In a 2013 interview with TV Guide, he declined to point fingers at anyone at GH but said the travel between the show’s production in Los Angeles and his new home in Nashville was not workable. Instead, he joined the CBS daytimer “The Young and the Restless” as Dylan McAvoy. And when it comes to travel, he gets “a lot of long weekends and frequent weeks off so I can get back to Nashville.”

QUESTION: Late summer, there was a trailer for the movie “The Drop.” The movie was listed playing one theater and then disappeared. Has it gone to Blu-ray at this time?

ANSWER: When it opened in September, the crime drama starring Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace and James Gandolfini was well received by critics but its theatrical run was brief. I have not yet seen a release date for it on DVD or Blu-ray, although some home-viewing plans have been made. Both iTunes and Amazon Instant Video are taking pre-orders for the digital version.
