Nebel, Orga power Saxonburg to series win

Tim Nebel drove in four runs and Kevin Orga pitched a five-hitter Tuesday night as Saxonburg defeated Mars II, 9-5, in the Eagle County League baseball semifinals at Highfield Park.

The victory gave Saxonburg a sweep of the best-of-five series. The team has won five consecutive postseason games.

Matt DeSantis got Saxonburg on the board in the first inning with a two-out RBI single. With two outs in the second, Brendan Malone produced a run-scoring double and Nebel followed with a two-run double.

Nebel hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Curt Schnur added a two-run shot in the fifth as Saxonburg opened up a 9-0 lead.

Mars II put together a five-run rally in the sixth, as Clint Deane and Brian Hart hit home runs, but could get no closer.

Orga struck out two in giving Saxonburg its third straight complete-game pitching effort in the series.

Malone contributed three hits, including a pair of doubles, to Saxonburg's 14-hit attack.

Saxonburg will face either Cranberry or Natrona Heights in the league finals. Natrona Heights extended the league's other semifinal series to a fourth game with a 9-5 victory Tuesday night at Cranberry Park.

Saxonburg has reached the league finals for the seventh consecutive season. It won league titles in 1998 and 2004.
