Hazel M. Garner Thompson

Hazel M. Garner Thompson, 83, of Eau Claire passed away suddenly Monday at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born July 11, 1933, in Eldorado, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Claude and Marie Sedwick Garner.

Hazel was a longtime member of the Six Points Church of God of Prophecy. In her many years of devotion to her church and community she had been a choir member, a women's missionary leader, a vacation Bible school teacher and a Sunday school teacher. She volunteered at the church food bank as well as the thrift shop. She was an assistant clerk for Eau Claire's election board for many years.

Hazel loved to read, had a beautiful singing voice, was patient, generous, kind and had a listening ear to all.

Hazel married Wilbert “Wib” P. Thompson on July 21, 1951, who preceded her in death April 13, 2016.

She and her husband were owner and operator of Garner's Laundry Mat on Route 38 near Eau Claire for many years.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. the Rev. Ron (Cheryl) Roudebush Sr. of Karns City, Mrs. Paul (Janice) Jones of Emlenton and Mrs. Jay (Denise) Mohn of Karns City; one son, Wilbert “Bill” C. (Julie) Thompson of Buffalo, N.Y.; and two sisters, Beverly Benz of Winter Haven, Fla., and Lynda Brown of Mt. Pleasant, Tenn.

She also is survived by 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Jay “JD” D. Mohn Jr.

THOMPSON — Friends of Hazel M. Garner Thompson, who died Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201. S. Washington St., Eau Claire.A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Six Points Church of God of Prophecy, Route 58, between Eau Claire and Parker, with Bishop C. Jay Croyle of the Church of God of Prophecy officiating.
