John William Thoma, formerly of Butler, passed away suddenly at his home on Nov. 21, 2022, in Dalton, Ohio. He was the son of John S. Thoma Jr. and Ruth Luton Thoma.

He graduated from Butler High School in 1962, then went on to earn a teaching degree from Slippery Rock College. He served in the Air Force in Korea. After the service, he taught in the Philippines and Mars High School.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Suzie Donahue of Griffin, Ga., Jim (Judy) Thoma of Alliance, Ohio, Patty (Jon) Thoma Lundberg of Irvine, Calif., Bee (Lin) Thoma of Costa Mesa, Calif., Betsy (Jack) Ferrari of Butler; and sister-in-law, Shelly (Hohn) Thoma of Franklin, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Chuck Thoma.
