Helen E. Herrit
Helen E. Herrit, 88, formerly of Saxonburg Road, Butler, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Thursday at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born April 8, 1924, in Surveyor, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Howard Horton and Matilda Brumberg Horton.
Mrs. Herrit was a homemaker. She was a longtime member of St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was active in various organizations of the church. She was a past president of the Women of the Church. Mrs. Herrit enjoyed reading, painting, drawing, and had taught decoupage at Butler County Community College. She also enjoyed playing bridge.
Mrs. Herrit is survived by one son, Dennis Herrit and his wife, Heidi, of Butler; two daughters, Diana Lynn Schaney and her husband, Ray, of Erie, Pa., and Suellen Lee Montag of Girard, Pa.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three nieces; and her sister-in-law, Patricia Herrit of Findlay, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Herrit was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne F. Herrit, who she married on July 11, 1945, and who passed away April 4, 1983.
HERRIT — Friends of Helen E. Herrit, who passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler, PA 16001, with the Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman.Interment will follow in Gruenwald Cemetery.
