John J. Kosar Sr., 95, of Butler died Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 4, 1912, in Butler, he was the son of Joseph and Fannie Malec Kosar.

He retired from Pullman Standard, where he had worked for 37 years.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army.

He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus and served on its bingo committee.

He was a 60-year, charter member and former chaplain of the Michael Kosar Post 778 of the American Legion in Lyndora. He was a founder of the post, which is named after his late brother.

He also belonged to the Tanglewood Senior Center and was a former member of the Ushers Club of St. Michael's.

He is survived by his wife of Alfreda E. Marini Kosar, whom he married Sept. 9, 1944; a son, John J. Kosar Jr. of Michigan; a daughter, Linda Lisy of Ohio; two brothers, Steve and Paul Kosar of Butler; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Turk and Mrs. Nellie Pollifrone, both of Butler, and Mrs. Ann Smuch of Prospect; five grandchildren, Rob Lisy of Ohio, Randall Lisy of Seattle, Beth-Ann Giardina of Ohio, Ryan Lisy of North Carolina and Nicole Kosar of Michigan; and two great-granddaughters, Cara and Megan Lisy, both of Seattle.

Kosar Sr., who died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. James Dolan officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery.The Bereavement Group of St. Michael Parish will hold a scriptural wake service at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by Michael Kosar American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and VFW Post 249 of Butler.
