Michael L. Pawk

Michael L. Pawk, 75, of Butler passed away Tuesday.

He was the beloved son of the late Michael “Ike” and Marie Markiw Pawk.

Michael is survived by his sister, Barbara Pupi; his children, Michele (John) Pawk, Michael J. (Georgia) Pawk, Laura (Donald) Santora and Matthew L. (Marci) Pawk, and his fiancee, Dora L. Bailey. Michael also had 11 grandchildren, Maxwell Pawk, Cassandra Pawk, Victoria Pawk, Elyssandra Santora, James Santora, Avangeline Santora, Donald “Tripp” Santora, Jack Dossett, Olivia Pawk, Gabrielle Pawk and Isabella Pawk.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra.

He was a graduate of Butler High School, Grove City College and the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry.

He served honorably as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

He maintained a successful dental practice in Butler for more than 30 years. He was a proud founder of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, which helped reduce the use of mercury in dentistry. After the passing of his father, “Ike,” he owned and managed the Lyndora Hotel.

He was a member of the Masons.

He was born and raised in Lyndora. He was extremely proud of his Ukrainian heritage and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren “pysanka,” the art of Ukrainian egg painting. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed gardening, working in his yard and listening to rhythm and blues music. He also sponsored many local bowling teams.

Although proud of all of his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments, he especially enjoyed attending plays and musicals in which his daughter, Michele, performed.

Pawk— The friends of Michael L. Pawk, who passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at theGeibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
