George C. Longwell
George C. Longwell, 95, of New Haven Court, Butler, died Monday at New Haven Court.
Born Aug. 6, 1917, in Butler, he was the son of Ralph E. and Margaret R. (Henry) Longwell.
He was a member of the St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Butler.
George was a graduate of Butler High School. He was an avid gardener, liked golfing and particularly enjoyed financial investing. He was also former member of the Butler Elks.
A World War II U.S. Army veteran, George was a sergeant with the Company 54th, an armored infantry battalion in Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal from injuries received in Germany. He also was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.
Surviving are two nephews, George E. Van Horn of Wilmette, Ill., and James H. Van Horn of Ponta Vedra, Fla., and one niece, Ellen Johnson of Aurora, Ill.
George was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Margaret Van Horn, and his aunt, Bertha Henry, with who George was raised.
LONGWELL — Friends of George Longwell, who died Monday, July 8, 2013, will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Charles B. Buechele Funeral Home, 105 4th St., East Brady.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church, East Brady, with the Rev.
