Gibson keys win for SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK — Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson sank a free throw with 0.5 seconds left Saturday, giving the Slippery Rock University wonen’s basketball team a critical 64-63 win over Seton Hill at Morrow Field House.
The victory pulls The Rock (8-17, 6-13) within a game and a half of the Griffins (13-11, 7-11) for the sixth and final PSAC Tournament spot in the West Division.
Three games remain in the regular season.
Gibson had 12 points and 14 rebounds on the day — her fourth consecutive double-double — and now ranks third in the PSAC in rebounding. Madison Johnson had 16 points and nine rebounds, Brooke Hinderliter 16 points and eight boards.
Daeja Quick contributed 11 points and five assists.
SRU (men) 58, Seton Hill 50 — The Rock (13-12, 9-10) clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament with this win. SRU trailed the Griffins (4-18, 3-15) by 11 with 11:20 left before rallying for the win.
Micah Till paced SRU with 20 points, eight rebounds, five blocked shots and four steals. Deontae Robertson added 14 points and six boards.
Both Rock teams return to action this Saturday at Gannon.
Butler County Community College (women) 43, Westmoreland CCC 36 — Michaella Roth and Casey Kretzer both scored 17 points as the Pioneers won the WPCC championship.
BC3 plays Anne Arundel in the Region 20 playoffs Saturday.
CCAC 123, BC3 90 — The Pioneers (1-25) fell in this WPCC semifinal. Julian Sanks scored 31 points while Andrew Yonkers had 28 points and 10 assists, Dom Schmidt 16 points and 12 rebounds.
