South Butler teachers, board agree on contract
The South Butler County School Board and its teachers have come to a tentative agreement on a three-year contract.
Donna Eakin, school board president, said at Wednesday's board meeting that the contract will be addressed at next Wednesday's school board meeting.
A news release on Thursday from David Foley, superintendent, said the early-bird contract is a result of meetings between the South Butler County School District Education Association and the school board on July 8 and Aug. 9, where the parties discussed their mutual desire to reach an agreement before the start of formal negotiations in January 2022.
“The meetings produced a tentative agreement, which will be presented to both parties for final approval,” Foley said in the release.
The current contract is set to expire on June 30.
An early collective bargaining agreement would not resemble the signing of the last contract in June 2018, which occurred after a four-year labor dispute that included a teachers strike in March of that year.
The teachers association represented 167 teachers in 2018.
Details of the new contract, Eakin said, will be revealed at the Wednesday school board meeting.
