Mildred Theresa Weiland Neigh
Mildred Theresa Weiland Neigh, 92, of Butler died peacefully Saturday at her home in the presence of her family.
She was born Sept. 18, 1919. She spent her early years in East Butler and most of her adult life in Carbon Center.
She was a lifelong member of the St. Wendelin's Church, Carbon Center, and participated in many church activities, especially in her younger years. She was a homemaker and, most of all, a great mother. She raised 10 children who loved her dearly and who will miss her every day. Her children were also her best friends and she continued to make their favorite meal for their birthday until she was 90.
In her later years, she took up quilting and gave each of her children a quilt that they will always treasure, both for its beauty and because we know how much of Mom it contains. She also loved nature, especially growing, tending and admiring her beautiful flowers.
She had a great curiosity which led to a love of travel. She saw all the great national parks in the western United States and Alaska and made multiple trips to Hawaii and Europe. Even though she was always ready for her next trip, she was happiest at home surrounded by her family.
She was a loving and gentle woman who carried herself with a quiet elegance. She had a positive outlook, treated everyone with respect, was always in a good mood and never complained. She had an inner strength that we all admired but none of us can match. She was a role model who was admired by anyone who knew her well.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Alfred Neigh, who died Aug. 3, 2000; a daughter, Janet Neigh; her parents, Charles and Cecelia (Sleigher) Weiland; a sister; and eight brothers.
She is survived by nine children, Charles (Jane) Neigh, Mary Catherine (Denny) Laughlin, Ruth Ann (Fred) Kinnick, John (Debby) Neigh, Jim Neigh, Bob (Ann) Neigh, Teri (John) Eli and Tom (Chris) Neigh, all of Butler and Annette (Nat) Williams of Highland, Md.; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.
