Vesta A. Lumley
Vesta A. Lumley, 93, of Hubbard, Ohio, formerly of Harrisville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Vesta was born Aug. 30, 1923, in Charleston, W.Va., to the late Monroe and Nancy Hamilton Barker. She spent much of her childhood moving around but continued to love and visit her former homes in Parker, Eau Claire and rural Kentucky.
Vesta married the love of her life, Donald D. Lumley Sr., on Sept. 14, 1947, in Eau Claire. He preceded her in death Sept. 30, 2005.
Vesta was a wonderful mother and wife, and an excellent homemaker. She was known to make the best pies in the world and was an extremely hospitable woman. She was an extremely sweet-spirited woman who loved reading her Bible, as well as Joyce Meyer books, and had an immense love for her family. Vesta was a former member of the West Unity Community Church and the Hubbard Methodist Church.
The family would like to thank the Hospice of the Valley for their exceptional care of their mother.
Vesta is survived by two children, Marilyn Fox and her husband, Jim, of Hubbard, Ohio, and Donald D. Lumley Jr. and his wife, Vonda, of Grove City; her daughter-in-law, Pamela Lumley of Peoria, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren, Christopher Fox and his wife, Michelle, Amy Brew, Jennifer Bush and her husband, John, Linda McBride and her husband, Brian, Stephanie Gill and her husband, David, James Lumley Jr. and Brian Lumley. She also is survived by 20 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Iona Criss of Kentucky.
In addition to her parents and husband, Vesta was preceded in death by her son, James Lumley Sr.; her granddaughter, Jessica Conan; her grandson-in-law, Scott Brew; three brothers, Welton Barker, George Barker and an infant brother; and her sister, Junita Barker.
LUMLEY — The family and friends of Vesta A. Lumley, who died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, are welcome from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at noon Wednesday at the Jamison Funeral Home, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville.
