State reminds motorists of closing

The state Department of Transportation District 10 is reminding motorists that Meridian Road in Penn Township was closed on Monday due to a collapsed section of the southbound lane.

The closure is between Railroad St. and Smith Road in the Renfrew neighborhood of the township.

The road collapsed in May after a heavy rain, sending debris onto the railroad tracks below and causing a section of the road to collapse.

PennDOT officials in a statement on Monday said recent weather has caused the landslide to further deteriorate.

“The roadway will remain closed until further notice as crews conduct debris removal and geotechnical engineers evaluate the hillside,” the statement said.

There is no timeline on when the road could be reopened.
