4-H members qualify for horse show
Eleven Butler County 4-H members qualified for the 62nd annual Pennsylvania State 4-H Horse Show last month at the Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg. More than 600 youths from more than 50 counties participated in 80 performance classes throughout the weekend. There were more than 1,400 entries shown by youths who qualified for the show.
The State 4-H Horse Show is the final competition of the year for 4-H horse members enrolled in performance horse projects. To be eligible for the show, members must advance through qualifying competitions at county and district levels. Events include showmanship, horsemanship, equitation, pleasure, over fences, driving, western riding, reining, trail and timed events. An equestrian with disabilities division for riders with special needs is included.
The 11 Butler County members who have qualified for the state show this year are: Jennifer Cichra, Jessica Cornell, Brianna Gillis, Adele Hohn, Leah Karenbauer, Zoey Logan, Maura Maloney, Emma Mershimer, Reed Messer, Kendal Myers and Hayley Stein.
The following placed in the top 10 of their class:
Brianna Gillis, eighth in Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat (ages 15-18), and ninth in Hunter Hack Horses
Hayley Stein, eighth in Western Horsemanship (ages 15-18), fourth in Ranch Pleasure, and first in Novice Reining
Jessica Cornell, fifth in Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat (ages 12-14), and seventh in Low Working Hunter Horses
Kendall Myers, sixth in Low Equitation over Fences (ages 14-18), and second in Low Working Hunter Horses
Maura Maloney, 10th in Western Horsemanship (ages 12-14), and fifth in Open Trail Horses (ages 8-13)
Reed Messer, seventh in Open Trail Horses (ages 8-13)
Zoey Logan, second in Classic Hunter Under Saddle Horses (ages 8-13).
Sadie Greyshock was recognized for completing Level 3 Horsemanship Skills, and Jennifer Cichra was recognized for completing Level 4 Horsemanship Skills.
Members completing Hoof Hours were recognized for reaching milestone marks, including Reed Messer, 300 hours.
