Marian Boltz
Marian Boltz, 93, of Cabot passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord at Concordia Lutheran Ministries on Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 26, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John and Eva (Datt) Schmidt.
Marian grew up on the family farm in Saxonburg, along with her six siblings. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1945.
She attended St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saxonburg, where she met her future husband, Alvin G. Boltz. They were engaged on Valentine’s Day 1946, and were married at St. Luke’s on June 16, 1948, after he returned from the U.S. Army.
Marian was a devoted wife and homemaker. She and Alvin enjoyed raising their family, gardening, Western-style square dancing, taking walks and traveling.
In 2008, they downsized to an apartment at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, where they took pleasure in all the activities and friendships they made there.
After 70 years of marriage, Alvin passed away in 2019. Marian missed him terribly and never recovered from her loss.
Marian loved her family, especially the little ones. She enjoyed being mother to her three children, a grandmother to her eight grandchildren, and “GG” to her five great-grandchildren. She also loved playing catch with her granddog, Mini. She cherished the times the family spent together.
An avid baker, Marian shared an abundance of cookies, pies, desserts and candies with everyone. She collected Hummel figurines and took joy in knowing their names and history.
Until macular degeneration affected her vision, she was a talented seamstress, tailoring suits and dresses, and creating beautiful quilts for her family.
Outside of the home, Marian was an active member of St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving on many committees and teaching Sunday school. In more recent years, she attended First English Lutheran Church in Butler, with her son and daughter-in-law, and became an associate member there.
She was also a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Freeport Chapter 179, where she was Worthy Matron in 1973-74, and treasurer for many years.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, who passed away Feb. 14, 2019; and three brothers.
She is survived by her three sisters, Velma Boltz of Cabot, Erla Miller of Ridge, N.Y., and Betty McCormick and her husband, Bob, of Dalton, Ga.
She is also survived by many relatives that she enjoyed reconnecting with at the annual Schmidt and Datt family reunions.
Marian’s love and care will especially be missed by her son, Marlin and his wife, Karen, of Cabot; and her daughters, Sue Peck and her husband, Jim, of West Chester, Pa., and Beth Kuric and her husband, Kevin, of Erie.
She will also be missed by her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Concordia, for the wonderful care and compassion they gave to Marian for the last couple of years.
