Professor James Hazy, formerly of Butler, was one of 12 recipients of the Bender Research Fellowship Award for best paper this year at Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y. Dr. Hazy received $1,500 in recognition of writing "Computer models of leadership: Foundation for a New Discipline or Meaningless Diversion" in The Leadership Quarterly, Vol 18, No. 4, pp. 391-410, 2007.He holds an Ed.D. with distinguished honors from The George Washington University, M.B.A. with distinction from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and B.S. from Haverford College.He is also a Butler High School graduate.—-Students at

South Butler Intermediate Elementary School raised $1,869.87 to help find cures for cancer and hope for families through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Pennies for Patients program.The society awarded the school a gift certificate for school supplies and pizza parties for the top two classrooms.—-

<B>Haley Scott</B>, 5, of Butler recently booked the role of young Marah Lewis on CBS's "Guiding Light." She auditioned in New York and returned to shoot two episodes on-location. They are scheduled to air at 10 a.m. July 18 and 21.She will be featured in scenes as the daughter of characters Reva Shayne Lewis and Josh Lewis.Scott has been booked for other jobs in New York, including a role in Chuck E. Cheese commercials, a role in an Eggland's Best Eggs commercial, print bookings for Simplicity Patterns and a speaking role for Nickelodeon and Nick Jr.She was a student at the Marilyn E. Kane Modeling School in Butler and was the 2007 Little Miss Butler County. She is the daughter of Bob and Tracey Scott of Butler.—-

<B>Danny Cinski</B> of Middlesex Township is currently appearing in the CLO production of "Mame" as young Patrick.Cinski, 12, has appeared in various musicals and plays with the Pittsburgh Musical Theatre.—-<B>Jim Keresztury</B>, formerly of Lyndora and a graduate of Butler High School, recently returned from an extensive trip through Vietnam and Cambodia, where he is working to train social service personnel in both countries.Keresztury presented workshops exploring social work roles in HIV/AIDS and palliative care at An Giang University in the Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam. Social workers from Vietnam and Cambodia participated in the training. Social work is a relatively new field in Vietnam but is expected to grow as the economy of Vietnam moves toward an open market system.Keresztury is the Associate Director for Cancer Prevention at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center at West Virginia University and is an adjunct professor for the Division of Social Work at West Virginia University. He has worked on numerous international projects in India, Nepal, Brazil, Colombia and Mali.—-The American Heart Association, Butler County Division announced that <B>Joe Taylor</B>, General Manager of Armstrong will chair the 2008 Butler Marshall Warrendale Start! Heart Walk. Together with an executive leadership team consisting of several Butler, Marshall, and Warrendale area leaders, Taylor has embraced the Start! campaign. The focus of the campaign is simple: Walk more. Eat well. Live longer.In addition to attending committee meetings and Start! related events, executive team members have pledged to encourage more local companies to join the Start! movement and participate in the Start! Heart Walk on Oct. 11 at the main campus of Butler County Community College.—-<B>Stephanie Champana</B>, a Butler photographer, created a birthday card that is available in Hallmark stores nationwide. Cards were created through a Hallmark competition and those interested may vote for the best card at http:newsroom.hallmark.com.—<B>Jessica Beblo,</B> a 1998 graduate of Knoch High School, received the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Citation of Excellence for District V, which includes Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.She is an elementary music teacher and music department chair in the Beaver School District.Beblo of Aliquippa was a recipient of a Fulbright-Hayes Scholarship to study in Ghana, West Africa in 2005, and was chosen to study in Japan through the Japanese Fulbright Memorial program this year.A 2002 graduate of Westminster College, she is the daughter of Karen and Brian Beblo of Cabot.—-Winners at the Butler Duplicate Bridge Club July 3 were the following:First: <B>Don Toy, Clem Rosenberger</B>.
