Roy Herr Jr.
Roy Lee Herr Jr., 36, of Wampum, passed away due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022.
Born June 9, 1986, in New Castle, he was the son of Cynthia (Klinesmith) Herr, Mesa, Ariz., and the late Roy Lee Herr Sr.
Roy was a 2004 graduate of Shenango High School and a 2019 graduate of Slippery Rock University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in education, majoring in physical fitness and activity management.
Following graduation, Roy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on Aug. 21, 2006, and served as a Scout for the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance during two deployments to Iraq. On Aug. 20, 2010, Corporal Herr was honorably discharged from the Corps.
Roy was employed as a forklift operator at R.W.E. Holding in New Castle. He was an avid motorcyclist and loved to ride his Harley. Roy was a member of the War Dog Motorcycle Club.
Besides his mother, Cynthia, he leaves behind his wife, Rachel (Piatek) Herr, whom he married on Aug. 20, 2022; and their son, Roy Lee Herr III; his beloved dog, Bubba, of Wampum; four sisters, Karen Sue (Colton) Woolsey and their children Emma and Caleb of Mesa, Ariz., Victoria (Thomas) Bulisco and their children, Marco (Angela) Bulisco, and Luann (Mark) Burdick and Melissa Houston of New Castle, Lisa (Dean) Epperson and their children, Tyler and Katelynn of Neshannock, and Nicole Herr and her children, Matthew (fiancee Kaylie Bambery) and Christopher Lovy of Monaca. He also leaves behind several great nieces and nephews.
Roy was preceded in death by his father, Roy Lee Herr Sr., who passed away April 8, 2022, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident; his maternal grandparents, Albert and Karen (Robinson) Klinesmith; and his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Dolly (Mielke) Herr.
HERR — Friends of Roy Lee Herr Jr., who died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, with service immediately following at the 234 Recreation Facility 362 Rocco Dr., Edinburg, Pa. (formerly St Lucy's Social Hall). The Rev. Eric Ward will officiate. Military rites will be observed by the New Castle Honor Guard on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at 10:30 am.
Following the service, Roy will be escorted by his brothers to his final resting place at Parkside Cemetery, New Castle.
