Vilma M. Oberdeen, 94, of Boyers, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 10, 2022, at home.

Vilma was born on Jan. 26, 1928, in Ganister, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Frank D. Oberdeen and the late Frances Despot Oberdeen, and her late stepmother, Katie Oberdeen, who raised Vilma.

Vilma was a member of the current St. Faustina Parish and previously sang in the St. Alphonsus Choir. She also rang the St. Alphonsus bell.

She worked for Iron Mountain for over 40 years and also worked for Dr. Bookbinder.

Vilma proudly enjoyed taking care of her yard and her flowers, and also taking care of her cats.

Vilma is survived by her many nieces, nephews and their families; her brother, Stanley Oberdeen of Alabama; and her cat, Minnie.

Vilma was preceded in death by four sisters, Dorothy Oberdeen, Mary Hamilton, Ann Dillaman and Verna Craig; one brother, Frank “Toy” Despot; and her lifelong companion, Don Christie.

OBERDEEN — Family and friends of Vilma M. Oberdeen, who died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022, will be received for visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Louis Church of St. Faustina Parish in West Sunbury. Everyone is asked to please meet at the church.

Burial will follow in Epiphany Cemetery in Boyers.
