Man sentenced for assaulting cop
An Evans City man was sentenced to probation in Butler County Court on Thursday, after being charged with assaulting a police officer.
Michael A. Harter, 46, was sentenced to 12 months probation and $400 in fines by county Judge Timothy McCune, after previously pleading guilty to misdemeanor resisting arrest and summary public drunkenness and driving on a suspended license.
Jackson Township police said Harter kicked a police officer during an altercation at Northgate Plaza on Route 19.
Police said they found Harter after being called for an intoxicated man wandering around. When officers approached the suspect, he became “belligerent and confrontational,” according to a police report.
Harter was arrested for public intoxication, but when police tried to place him in a patrol car, he is accused of kicking an officer in the lower left leg.
A full report will appear in the Butler Eagle.
