Barbara J. 'Hon' Gerwick
Barbara J. “Hon” Gerwick, 79, of Eau Claire passed away at 2:40 p.m. Saturday at VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler, following a brief illness.
Born in Blawnox, Allegheny County, on Dec. 26, 1934, she was the daughter of the late William and Evangeline Sincley Vogle.
She was a Protestant.
Hon was an accomplished seamstress, making unique quilts and draperies and tailoring clothing.
She had been a member of the Eau Claire Card Club for many decades.
Mrs. Gerwick was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 7840, and she served as club manager for many years. She enjoyed assisting with many activities of the Eau Claire VFD in her earlier years.
Surviving are her three sons, Glenn (Denise) Gerwick of St. Petersburg, David L. Gerwick of Eau Claire, and Steve (Andrea) Gerwick of Butler; her three grandchildren, Glenn “GG” (Jennifer) Gerwick, Christopher (Holly) Gerwick and Kaitlyn (Josh) Loos; her four great-grandchildren, Sydnee, Sayge, Thad and Brett; her three sisters, Jean Bowser of New Kensington, Judy Hutchison of Seattle, Wash., and Sharon Smith of Ogden, Ore.; her two sisters-in-law, Barb and Yvonne Gerwick of Emlenton, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Gerwick, who she married on Sept. 18, 1954, and who passed away on March 6, 2007.
Gerwick — The friends of Barbara J. “Hon” Gerwick, who passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014, may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 S. Washington St., Eau Claire, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Kate Reitz of the Bethel United Methodist Church of Eau Claire officiating.
