COLLEGE NOTES

MIKE STIMAC (Karns City), a senior defensive end at Thiel College, was named a first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American. Stimac carries a 4.0 grade point average as an English major and had 81 tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception this year.•

DAN SOMMERS (Slippery Rock), a senior center for the College of Wooster (Ohio) football team, was named second-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference. A team captain, he battled through injuries to start eight games this year, with his blocking grading out at 72 percent with 38 knockdown blocks.•

MIKE BUTTERWORTH and CLINT FORSHA (Slippery Rock University) were named first-team ESPNThe Magazine Academic All-Americans. Butterworth, a senior offensive tackle, carries a 3.62 GPA as a health and physical education major. Forsha, a senior defensive tackle, has a 3.69 GPAas a geology major. Forsha had 62 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 7Z\x this season.•

ANDY RAPE (Zelienople), a senior defensive back at the University of Rochester (N.Y.), was named first team ESPN the Magazine All-America. He carries a 3.82 GPA as an engineering major, had a team-high six interceptions and broke up seven passes. He also had a 24.1-yard average on 19 kickoff returns.
