Vernon William Bain

Vernon William Bain, 77, passed away Tuesday at the VA Hospital in Togus, Maine.

He was born on Aug. 15, 1937, in Brownville Junction, Maine, the son of the late Claude V. and Marion W. Doyle Bain.

Vernon graduated from Brownville Junction High School, Class of 1954, and from the Modern Business College in St. John, New Brunswick.

In 1960, he joined the U.S. Army, where he was ranked as an E8 Master Sergeant and received many medals and ribbons of honor while working out of the Pentagon.

After 21 years serving our country, Vernon came home to Brownville Junction to take care of his sister. He worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad, Great Northern Paper and finally for MSAD 41 as a janitor and everyone's favorite bus driver until he retired in 2002.

He is survived by his son that he never had, Michael Barriault and his wife, Aaron, and their son, Michael Allen III, all of Brownville Junction, Maine; his sister, Ruth Port of Butler; his three nieces, Diane Reep and her husband, Paul, of West Sunbury, Stephanie Jackson and her husband, Ronald, of Butler, and Laurie Port of Butler; his nephew, John Vernon Port and his wife, Rosalyn, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; his three great-nieces, Jennifer Chacon, Jessica Goldyn and her husband, Matthew, and Shannon Dally, all of Butler; his great-nephew, Joshua Port of Boynton Beach, Fla.; his great-great-nephew, Drake Wilson of Butler; his special friends, Dean Bellatty and Rusty Ladd, both of Brownville Junction, Maine; the staff of MSAD 41 and the hundreds of kids he “hauled,” and his many cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Claudia Bain; his brother-in-law and good friend, John Port; his special grandson, Mason Isaiah Barriault, and his special friend, Walter Lutterell.
