HARRISBURG — Hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania hunters will tramp into the woods for the first day of the state’s major deer hunting season.

The two-week tradition begins today with temperatures reaching into the 40s and a chance of rain.

Pennsylvania Game Commission officials say about 750,000 hunters were expected to participate in the opening day of deer season, and they expect more than 300,000 deer to be taken.
