Gary Goepfert
Gary Goepfert Sr., 83, of Butler, passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, at his home.
Born Aug. 1, 1939, in Craigsville, Pa., he was a son of the late John W. and Julia Lichanec Goepfert.
His working life included being a laborer at Graff Kittanning Clay Products in Worthington, an officer in the U.S. Army, a mathematics teacher at Butler schools, a computer programmer for Alcoa, and director of computer services at Slippery Rock University.
He received a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and had done graduate studies in administration at Slippery Rock University.
He was a life member of the NRA and he was a member of the Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf, and he was a confirmed DIY person.
He was the loving husband of Joyce Wagner Goepfert, who passed away April 10, 2017, after 36 years of marriage.
He is survived by one son, Gary Goepfert Jr., and his wife, Denise, of Butler; two daughters, LeAnn Goodall and her husband, Derik, of Rochester, Mich., and Lynn Keyser and her husband, Louis, of Latrobe, Pa.; three grandchildren, Amanda Renken and her husband, William, of Simpsonville, N.C., Sydney Maddox of Rochester, Mich., and Cody Huff and his fiancée, Tara, of Butler; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Liam, River and Carson; one brother, Lowell Goepfert, and his wife, Dolores, of Cowansville, Pa.; and his best friend, Bill Bono, and his wife, Barb, of Butler.
In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Joyce, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Gene Goepfert.
GOEPFERT — Friends of Gary Goepfert Sr., who died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave., Butler.
Private funeral services and private burial will take place in Butler County Memorial Park.
