Site to be for storage

Vogel wants to expand facility

JACKSON TWP — Vogel Disposal Service is looking to expand its facility along Hartmann Road.

The company wants to grade about 25 acres on its property for storage of its vehicles and equipment and also for Butler Auto Auction to store some of its vehicles.

The property is about 122 acres total.

The site will not see a landfill come into the area.

“It’s somewhat of an accessory use for Vogel Disposal Service,” township manager Chris Rearick said. “It’s simply storage.”

The plan was discussed and recommended by the township planning commission earlier this month.

The plan is scheduled to be discussed and voted on at the township supervisors meeting on Thursday.

Ed Vogel Jr., vice president of the company, said he’s “amazed it took this long” for the development to reach this point. He said he was concerned about how the delays would affect his business deal with Butler Auto Auction.

“All the changes that have come to be, have not made development easy by any means,” he said.

He said he has talked with multiple engineers about the project, which will involve grading the site.

Planting along Hartmann Road will be placed as a buffer in accordance with the township.

“The plan is indicating they (Vogel) will meet the ordinance in terms of sheer numbers,” Rearick said.
