SLIPPERY ROCK — Eight Slippery Rock University indoor track and field athletes have been named to the All-Atlantic Region team.
Athletes must own a top-five mark in their respective events among all athletes in the region during the current season to earn this honor.
On the men's side, pole vaulters Cameron Daugherty and Michael Shiverdecker, multi-event athletes Derick Fiedler and Hans Lubich made all-region from SRU.
Rock women gaining the honor are high jumper Ashley West, distance runner Stephanie Case, pole vaulters Julia Cain and Kaitlyn Clark.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Three Slippery Rock University athletes — pole vaulters Cameron Daugherty and Julia Cain, high jumper Ashley West — have accepted entries in the NCAA Division II National Indoor Track and Field Championships March 8-9 in Birmingham, Ala.Daugherty, a graduate student, is seeking his fourth All-America and second national championship. Cain, a junior, joined Daugherty as a PSAC champion this year.West, a freshman, is the No. 5 seed in the high jump and posted the best clearance in the PSAC this winter.
North Hills High School graduate Taylor Schmidt and Pine-Richland grad Russell Clark — teammates at the University of Cincinnati — will play for the Butler BlueSox this summer.Schmidt was hitting .500 as an outfielder for the Bearcats through 12 games last spring when an injury ended his season. He owns North Hills records for batting average, stolen bases and RBIs.Clark, a catcher, started every game of his four-year career at Pine-Richland and has already started two games for Cincinnati behind the plate this year.
NEW ALBANY, Ind. — The Point Park University women’s basketball team, coached by Butler graduate Tony Grenek, won the KIAC title with a 67-58 win over Asbury (Ky.) Tuesday night and grabbed the league’s automatic berth in the NAIA Tournament.Butler graduate Katresa Savisky scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Pioneers (25-6).The national tournament takes place March 6-12 in Sioux City, Iowa.
