CHICORA — A borough woman is accused of failing to turn over $1,260 to the Girl Scouts for hundreds of boxes of cookies her daughter had sold.

Cynthia R. Smith, 51, is charged with theft by failure to make required disposition of funds received.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton on Monday issued a felony arrest warrant for Smith.

State police said Sue Jenkins, manager of product sales for the Western Pennsylvania Girl Scout Association on Aug. 30 reported the alleged theft.

Jenkins told authorities that Smith had received the cookies, which her daughter had pre-sold.

When the defendant failed to send in the money owed, police said, the association eventually sent her a certified letter, which required payment in full by July 22.

Trooper David Thompson said he spoke to Smith on Sept. 8 at her home. She admitted spending the cookie money on utility bills, according to court documents.

She assured the officer that she would make the entire payment by Oct. 3. But when that deadline passed and the money was not paid, police filed the criminal case.
