LIHEAP applications being accepted
Eligible Pennsylvania residents can now apply for help with heating bills this winter.
The application process for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) began on Tuesday, according to officials from the state Department of Human Services and Public Utilities Commission.
Those earning a maximum income of 150% of the poverty level are eligible to receive LIHEAP assistance. For example, individuals earning $20,385 or less or families of four earning a maximum of $41,625 would meet the income requirements.
The funds are paid directly to the company that provides heat or deliverable fuel to eligible customers.
Cash grants paid to providers are between $300 and $1,000.
Emergency funds also are available to people who meet income requirements and are in jeopardy of having their heating service terminated, have already been terminated or have less than two weeks’ supply of oil, propane, coal, wood or other deliverable fuel.
Applications can be found online at compass.state.pa.us for LIHEAP and other public assistance programs.
People without internet access can find applications at the county assistance office in Pullman Center Business Park or by calling 215-560-7226.
