Mackenzie L. Shay, 20, of New Castle, passed away during a military training accident Saturday evening, Oct. 22, 2022.

Born Feb. 18, 2002, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Gary A. and Tina Lee (Ayersman) Shay Jr. They survive at home.

Mackenzie was a student at Slippery Rock University. She joined the Army National Guard at the age of 17, serving with the G C0128th BSB Unit with the rank of Spc. She worked as a Safety Manager employed by Gray Construction. Mackenzie enjoyed working out at the gym, taking her dog for walks, traveling and hanging out with her friends.

In addition to her parents, Mackenzie is survived by one brother, Gary A. (Bridgette) Shay III, of Slippery Rock; one sister, Patricia A. (Joshua) Woloszyn of New Castle; one niece, Madison Woloszyn; two nephews, Isaiah Woloszyn and Gary A. Shay IV; and grandparents, Don and Sylvia Leishman and Gary Sr. and Lynda Shay.

Mackenzie was preceded in death by her grandfather, Paul Ayersman; a cousin, Brandon Reno; and an uncle, Paul Ayersman.

SHAY — Visitation for Mackenzie L. Shay, who died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov.1, 2022, at New Life Baptist Church, 3414 Route 208, New Wilmington.

A funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 7 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Jason Doolittle officiating.

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the R. CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME of New Castle.
