Middlesex pledges $30,000 to restore lake

MIDDLESEX TWP — The township supervisors are backing the effort to get back Glade Run Lake.

They have agreed to spend $10,000 a year for three years to do that.

Siggy Pehel, president of the Glade Run Lake Conservancy, on Wednesday night asked the supervisors for their backing.

The conservancy’s goal is to have the dam at Glade Run Lake off Overbrook Road rebuilt and the lake refilled at an estimated cost of $4.2 million.

The state ordered the lake drained after the agency determined the dam was structurally unsound.

Pehel was stunned when supervisors President Mike Spreng announced Wednesday that the township will donate $10,000 per year for the next three years to the conservancy.

Pehel jumped out of his seat and strode toward the board.

“Well then, let me shake your hand,” he said.

Spreng, who is a board member of the conservancy, said Glade Run Lake was one of the best features in the township.

“The lake is such an asset to the township,” Spreng said. “We need it back.”

The 52-acre lake was drained in June after experts noticed seeping from the dam.

Township residents soon formed the conservancy.
