Loretta “Betty” M. Burke

Loretta “Betty” M. Burke, 95, of Meridian died Saturday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

Born May 28, 1920, in Fenelton, she was the daughter of William Maloney and Lilly Morrow.

She was married to Daniel J. Burke in 1945, who passed away in 2007 after 61 years of marriage.

She was a 1942 graduate of Butler Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, having studied at the University of Minnesota learning the Kinney Technique for the treatment of polio.

After completion of her studies, she worked in Los Angeles during the polio epidemic of 1943 and returned to Butler Memorial Hospital upon completion of her work there. Later in her career, she was employed for 18 years as the office pediatric nurse for Dr. Donald C. Fox.

She was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, Meridian, and the Butler Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association and NCPSSM.

She will be mourned as a loving mother and wonderful grandmother. Her devotion to her deceased husband and family will be greatly missed by two sons, Daniel J. Burke and his wife, Pamela, of Renfrew and Ronald M. Burke and his wife, Linda, of Naples, N.Y.; one daughter, Dr. Eileen J. Lammie, V.M.D., and her husband, Sam Lammie, of Elkins, W.Va.; and her grandchildren, Tracy (Matt) Stroschein, Sean (Jennifer) Burke, Eric (Emily) Burke, Catherine (Zach) Morris, Michael (Rebecca) Burke, Samantha and Daniel Lammie; and eight great-grandchildren, Max, Madeline, Drake, Liam, Ryan, Cora, Katie Burke and Kai Morris. She also is survived by one sister, Madeline Carbin.

Two sisters, Hazel Witt and Alberta Walsh, and two brothers, Harry and Jerry Maloney, preceded her in death.

BURKE — Friends of Loretta “Betty” M. Burke, who died Saturday, April 30, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Meridian. The Rev. James Murphy, will officiate.Interment will follow at St. Mary of the Assumption Cemetery in Herman.The bereavement committee of St. Fidelis Parish will conduct a vigil prayer at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.Memorial donations may be made to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA. 16001.For more information or to leave an online condolence, please visit www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
