ALLISON PARK — John Aubrey, of Aubrey’s Dubbs Dred Golf Course, and Joe Boros, of Treesdale Golf and Country Club, finished in the top five Friday at the TSPGA Super Senior Section Championship at Wildwood Golf Club.
Their finish qualifies them for the Senior PGA Professional Championship to be played Oct. 10-13 in Leesburg, Va.
Aubrey finished second in the 36-hole qualifier with a 70-76—146. Boros tied for fifth, five strokes behind Aubrey, with a 74-77—151.
Barry Evans, of Berry Hills Country Club, won the event after firing a 69-73—142.
BC3 volleyball earns 3-1 victorySophomore setter Mackenzie Huey had 22 assists and eight kills Wednesday as the Butler County Community College women’s volleyball team defeated Point Park’s JV, 3-1.The Pioneers (8-3, 1-0) won the match by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 20-25, 25-22. Mariah Clark had 11 kills and nine digs, Heather Straynick 12 kills and 13 digs.BC3 will host the Community College of Beaver County at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Pietrangelo, Blues ink 7-year dealST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Blues and defenseman Alex Pietrangelo agreed on a seven-year, $45.5 million contract with a no-trade clause over the final three years, ending a brief holdout.The deal was announced Friday, one day after the first practice of training camp. General manager Doug Armstrong said it was a strong signal that the Blues intend for the 23-year-old Pietrangelo, the fourth overall pick of the 2008 draft and one of the top offensive defensemen in the NHL, to spend his career in St. Louis.A news conference for Armstrong and Pietrangelo (Pet-TRANJ’-el-oh) was set for Saturday.“What I said to him, `This isn’t a seven-year deal, this is just another steppingstone,” Armstrong said. “I think he’s excited to be here, I know we’re excited to have him, get him in here and turn him over to the coach.”
Yankees’ Gardner could miss seasonBOSTON — Add another one to a list of key injuries for the New York Yankees.Yankees manager Joe Girardi expects leadoff hitter Brett Gardner will be out for a lengthy stretch and possibly the rest of the regular season.Girardi made the announcement before New York opened a three-game series with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Friday night.Gardner left Thursday night’s win in Baltimore with the injury, which Girardi said is a “Grade 1 strain in his rib cage.” He’s batting .273 with eight homers and 52 RBIs and a big part of New York’s injury-ravaged offense.“He’s going to be out a while,” Girardi said. “Rib cages don’t heal real quick. It’s not like it’s just a few days. Is it possible it could be the rest of the year? Yeah.”It’s the latest in a season filled with injuries for the Yankees.
