WEXFORD — The Butler Junior High girls cross country team wrapped up its season by finishing second out of seven schools at the North Allegheny Invitational.

The Golden Tornado finished 7-1 this season and also took second at the Erie Invitational. Runners included Olivia Swiergol, Ashley Crawford, Trisha Brandt, Shannon Zangas, Gretchen Geibel, Jessica Lytle and Lauren Kiggins.

Butler's junior high boys finished fifth at the Erieevent. Their runners include Frank Puz, Zack Dankle, Tom Rumbaugh, Terry Cunningham, Steve Stauffer, Trey Neveux and Dale Harris.

SAN FRANCISCO — San Diego Padres manager Bruce Bochy has agreed to become the new skipper of the San Francisco Giants, and was still working out details after meeting with team officials most of the day Thursday.Bochy had agreed in principle to take the job left vacant when Felipe Alou's contract was not renewed, two baseball officials told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal was still pending.Barring any last-minute snags, Bochy would be introduced at a news conference today.

LINZ, Austria — Mary Pierce was carried off the court on a stretcher and taken to a hospital Thursday after hurting her left knee in a fall while on the brink of defeating Vera Zvonareva in the Generali Ladies tennis tournament.Pierce led Zvonareva 6-4, 6-5 and held three match points when she fell behind the baseline. As Pierce clutched her knee, Zvonareva rushed to her side with ice.
