PINE TWP, Mercer County — Grove City High School graduate Derek Forese advanced out of a U.S. Open local qualifying round Tuesday at Grove City Country Club by placing third with an even par 71 (34-37).

The effort was just one stroke behind Sebastian Hutman and PGA Tour member Mark Hoffman. Shawn Adamczyk was the fourth qualifier, carding a 72.

These golfers will now compete in U.S. Open sectional qualifying June 3. Various sectionals will be held across the country.

BCC pro McClellan shares tourney winNEW CASTLE — Butler Country Club pro Rob McClellan teamed with Ryan Sikora of Hannahstown Golf Club to win the Cutter & Buck Pro-Pro Championship Monday at New Castle Country Club.The duo combined to shoot an 11-under-par 133, five strokes better than runner-ups Craig Weis of New Castle Country Club and Brent Johnson of Southpointe.

SV graduate Bilka sets pole vault markERIE — Seneca Valley graduate and Penn State-Behrend sophomore Dylan Bilka set a school record of 16 feet, 6.75 inches in the pole vault at the recent Allegheny Gator Invitational.Bilka won the event, which included the 2013 NCAA Indoor champion among the field. The height marked the third highest in all of NCAA Division III this year.

Pro Bowl runner Muncie dead at 60 METAIRIE, La. — Chuck Muncie, a Pro Bowl running back with both the New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers, has died at age 60, the NFL clubs and a family spokesman said.Muncie family spokesman Vintage Foster of AMF Media Group in San Ramon, Calif., said Muncie died at his Los Angeles-area home on Monday from heart failure.

McNabb retiring with NFL's Eagles PHILADELPHIA — Donovan McNabb will retire with the Philadelphia Eagles this fall.The six-time Pro Bowl quarterback led the Eagles to four NFC championship games and a Super Bowl loss in 11 seasons before he was traded to Washington in 2010. McNabb went 92-49-1 with the Eagles and holds franchise records for completions (2801), passing yards (32,873) and passing touchdowns (216).
